The two best things about cycling on a tandem are that you can talk to each other fairly normally - no shouting, twisting around or doing anything risky - and you can both get a good workout regardless of your respective fitness levels. We've had so much fun on this bike already and we've only had it for 10 days. It's made the locals smile a lot too, and we've been reliably informed by three different youths that it is *sick* (apparently this is good). Mind you we have decorated it with bunting and streamers...
If you're not completely confident with mechanical stuff, I'd advise you to get this delivered to and set up by your local bike shop. It comes mostly put together but our gears needed a lot of fiddling with and the pedal threads are very delicate... be ultra careful; we had to get one of our pedal crank arms replaced.
Basically - if you've got £500 to spare and like cycling with a friend or partner, this is a brilliant thing to spend it on. We're waiting to see whether it's likely to stand up to the rigours of the Lands End - John O'Groats trip we've got planned for next summer or whether we'll need something more expensive, but we're optimistic - it's a really great bike for the price.
Super service from Bikes Direct too - despite my intiial whinging - thanks guys, you were great ;)
